NEW HAVEN--The Amity Spartans are three-time defending state champions in Class LL baseball. And this season, the team is poised to win its fourth straight title as the team is the #1 seed.

After defeating Stamford 10-0 Wednesday night the team hosted the 17-seed Danbury Mad Hatters in second-round action.

At the bottom of the second Amity had the bases loaded when Patrick Winkel sent a well hit ball into center field. Then Chris Winkel hustled all the way from first to get the uniform dirty, pushing the Spartans into the lead with 3-0 on the base clearing double.

Same score in the 4th and again Spartans with the bases juiced off the grounder to third Mad Hatter Rocco Swensen starts the 5-2-3 double play. Unfortunately it didn’t end the inning because the very next batter, John Nolan, sent a grounder through the wickets to bring in two more runs.

Amity won 5-0 and the Spartans moved on to the quarter finals, where they will face Southington on Saturday.
