HARTFORD --  Trails Day events starting this weekend are a great way to get out and enjoy nature in the state. People are encouraged to participate by hiking, biking, running, helping with trail maintenance, kayaking, educational walks, bird watching, and letterboxing.

Letterboxing is an activity where clues are posted online. The clues help hikers find waterproof boxes where they use the rubber stamp inside to mark their log books.

Trails Day participants can receive a free 2016 CT Trails Day commemorative patch, a bonus item that is available to the first 1,000 respondents.

A full listing of all Trails Day events, organized by town, activity and interest, as well as information on the free patch offer can be found online  here or in the Connecticut Trails Day printed booklet available at town/city halls, nature centers, state parks, outdoor retailers, and public libraries.

The debut of Connecticut’s newest state park, Auerfarm State Park Scenic Reserve in Bloomfield, will be celebrated during CT Trails Day with a guided hike through the property on Sunday, June 5.
