HARTFORD — Lakes and ponds across Connecticut are now teeming with nearly 16,000 delicious channel catfish.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced Thursday that one of the most sought after freshwater game fish species in the country has been stocked into Connecticut 24 bodies of water.

This is the 10th consecutive year the agency has been able to stock channel catfish purchased with Federal Sport Fish Restoration funds.

The fish stocked last week include adult fish averaging 12 to 18 inches in length and weighing just under 2 pounds, and juvenile fish, averaging 9 to 12 inches and about a half pound.

The larger fish provide an immediate summer fishery for a great tasting-high quality meal, while the smaller fish ensure great angling into the future.
