Trooper, two others injured in three-car crash on I-691 in Cheshire

CHESHIRE — Police said a driver hit a state police cruiser as the trooper was trying to move a stalled vehicle off the highway seriously injuring the trooper Monday.

Two others received minor injuries in the accident which on I-691 westbound around 5 p.m. between exits 3 and 2.

Trooper Jack Kulig, 36,  was assisting a driver with a disabled vehicle to move from the center median to the right shoulder. Police said Kulig had his emergency lights on a the time and was struck by a car driven by Steven Veras, 25 of Providence, RI.

Veras’ car pushed the cruiser into the guide rail. Police said Kulig was suspected of having serious injury. The driver and a passenger in Veras car were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
