SOUTHINGTON — A Southington woman has been charged after leaving her loaded handgun in the bathroom of a local restaurant.
On Saturday, June 4, officers were called to Geno’s Grille after an employee found the gun in the women’s restroom, police said.
The gun was seized by police and traced back to Carmillia Kimmel, 77. She told police she felt sick while at the restaurant and went into the restroom. There, she put the gun down so it wouldn’t fall on the floor, she said. Then, she went outside to get some air, forgot about the gun, and left.
Police said Kimmel holds a valid pistol permit and was cooperating with the investigation.
She is charged with reckless endangerment and is due in court next week.
