KILLINGLY — An arrest has been made in a nearly-decade old sexual assault case involving a minor.

A 22-year-old victim came forward in October 2015 to report that when she was between the ages of 13 and 15 she had been sexually assaulted repeatedly by Michael Sobieniak.

When the victim was 13, she started taking horseback riding lessons at the Valley View Stables in Killingly. At that time, she started working for Sobieniak, who is now 41 and lives in Brooklyn, Connecticut, at the stable as a way to pay for her riding time.

Police say that the relationship between the two became sexual, and that that relationship lasted about two years. The victim lived at the stables for part of that time.

Sobieniak is charged with three counts of sexual assault of a victim between ages 13 and 15 in the second degree, three counts of illegal sexual contact with a child under age 16, and risk of injury to a minor. He turned himself in on Thursday and was held on $100,000 bond.
