HARTFORD — A documentary detailing the effects of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy on the Newtown community will get its first public screening in Connecticut this weekend.
The film “Newtown,” which took three years to make, follows several victims’ families, first responders, teachers, neighbors and clergy as they deal with the December 2012 event that took the lives of 20 first graders and six educators.
Sandy Hook parents Mark Barden and David Wheeler said they hope that sharing intimate details of their families’ struggles with the loss of their children will not only help foster more national understanding of the consequences of gun violence, but also open up some lines of communication among those affected by the tragedy in Newtown.
The film will be screened on Saturday and Sunday in Greenwich as part of the Greenwich International Film festival.
