NEW LONDON – The Coast Guard rescued a stranded swimmer at the New London Ledge Lighthouse Thursday.
Police said a New London resident reported that their 20-year-old daughter had not returned home after a late evening swim at Mitchell College beach.
The Coast Guard said they got the report about the missing swimmer at around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday night and told boaters to keep a look out for the swimmer.
The Coast Guard found the woman at around 12:20 a.m. She was clinging to a rock at the base of the New London Ledge Lighthouse. She was conscious and alert.
After pulling her aboard the rescue boat, she was taken to awaiting medical crews, then to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.
