WEST HARTFORD — A man was arrested Wednesday after police said he harassed an employee of Home Depot, using anti-gay language and referencing the Orlando gay nightclub shooting.
Mario Interlandi, 71, of West Hartford was charged with intimidation based on bigotry and violence and breach of peace after the incident at the Home Depot store on New Park Avenue Wednesday evening.
Police said Interlandi had a hostile discussion with an employee in the store while he was at the cash registers. They said Interlandi made hostile comments about the cashier’s sexuality because the cashier was wearing gloves and called the cashier a “faggot” and referenced the Orlando gay nightclub shooting.
The comments were overheard by another employee, according to police. They said the victim took photos of the suspect’s license plate and police tracked him down.
He was held on $25,000 bond and ordered to stay away from the Home Depot store.
