HARTFORD — A South Windsor man has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting Hartford Thursday night.

Daylon Ore, 22, of South Windsor,  was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot in the head. The shooting occurred near the intersection of Main and Earle streets.

Hartford Police Major Crimes and the Shooting Task Force is investigating. Ore played basketball for Hartford Public High School.  He was enrolled in Pine Manor College in Newton, Massachusetts, between fall 2014 and fall 2015 according to spokeswoman.

Pine Manor President O’Reilly released a statement on Ore’s death:

It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the news that we have lost Daylon Ore. I did not know Daylon personally, but I have come to know him through others because he made his presence known to all who met him…a leader in so many ways, most especially on the basketball court, Daylon was a friend to many in our community. I have learned that he came to Pine Manor College to grow.  That he came here to gain life sustenance and because he wanted to move forward.  From what I have learned of him, I think that instead of going dark, he would want us to step into the light, to continue to push forward on our own journeys, and to take him with us.

Pine Manor’s dean of Student Affairs, Staci Webber, also released a statement:Hartford shooting June 16

The stories people have shared about Daylon capture his essence – he would rally people up before class to remind them, ‘this is what we’re here for.’  Always trying to lift spirits and bring people together…As we reflect on Daylon and try to make sense of something that makes no sense, I am thankful for the close-knit community of Pine Manor College.  Please look out for each other and reach out if you need us, as we are here and present.

Police are asking that if you have any information to please call Hartford Police. No word on if there is a known suspect or someone is in custody.
