HARTFORD – A South Windsor man survived a drive by shooting on Mother’s Day in 2011, but five years later, on Father’s Day, his loved ones are holding a vigil in his memory.
Daylon Ore, 22, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, Thursday night, at the intersection of Main and Earle Streets.
His family and friends gathered, Sunday, to remember Ore, at the same intersection where he was killed.
“He touched all of them because he’s a special kid, special kid,” his mother Janet Martin said.
“He was a good kid, all around, “ his cousin Tyvon Martin said. “All he did was love basketball, love his mother, love his dad, love his brothers, and his family.”
Ore played basketball for Hartford Public High school and helped his childhood coach teach local kids.
“He helped with the league. He helped with the young kids,” coach Shawn Bell said. “He was a leader. The kids flocked around him. The young kids loved him. The older kids respected him.”
When asked what she would say to the person who took her son's life, Ore’s mother responded with forgiveness.
“I want to say two things - I forgive him and also my son forgive him,” Martin said.
Hartford Police are asking if the public has any information to contact them. There is no wordyet if there is a known suspect or someone is in custody.
