Man flees traffic stop, hits cruiser with car, punches officer: Milford police

MILFORD — A man is under arrest after driving off from a traffic stop, then hitting a cruiser and striking an officer Sunday.

Frank Bontempo, 25,  of Orange, was stopped for a traffic violation near Old Gate Lane and Woodmont Road in Milford. Police said Bontempo started talking with the officer, but then took off.

Police said he struck a cruiser with his car and then when he was being detained, he struck an officer in the face with his fist. The officer was not injured, and Bontempo was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

He was charged with reckless driving, failure to obey traffic signal, engaging police in pursuit, failure to have vehicle insurance, breach of peace, assault on a police officer, and interfering with arrest.  Bontempo was held on $15,000 bond.
