WATERBURY — Two officers were injured Tuesday during an assault investigation, according to the Deputy Chief of the Waterbury Police Department.

Around 10:45 a.m. the management at the Big Apple Hotel on West Main Street called police after a person was causing a disturbance and refused to leave the hotel or identify himself.

When officers arrived and tried to identify the man he tried to run away by pushing the officers out of his way. The officers tackled the man and stopped him from escaping. More officers responded and the man was arrested.

The man, identified as Dontrell Tillman, 27, had a large amount of narcotics on him during the arrest: 118 bags of heroin, 32 pain killers and 5.3 grams of crack cocaine.

The officers got numerous scrapes, contusions, and twisted joints during the struggle, and one of the officers broke a finger. Both were treated at the hospital and released.

Tillman is charged with breach of peace in the second degree, two counts of assault on a police officer, two counts of interference with an officer, two counts of possession of narcotics, two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, two counts of possession of narcotics within a school zone and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Tillman is still being processed at the police station.
