DERBY — After appealing to the public for help, police were able to locate relatives of the victim of a fatal pedestrian accident last week.

Alfredo Simoes, 57, was struck and later died last Thursday after he was struck on Route 34 eastbound near Chapel Street in Derby.

Emergency crews were called to the scene and but the victim died on the way to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Police said Simoes was homeless and his last known address was in New Haven.

According to police, after the preliminary investigation, the driver does not appear to be at fault. Police said Simoes was walking in the travel portion of the road when he was struck. They are awaiting toxicology results from the Office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner.

Anyone with information relating to the accident is asked to call the Derby Police Department.
