EAST HADDAM--Sleeping under the stars will soon be just a dream at several of Connecticut's forest campgrounds.

The state campground  at Devil's Hopyard is one of three which had its summer grand finale on the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The other two closing for the summer are Salt Rock in Baltic and Greens Falls in Voluntown.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says the campgrounds are among the least used, and closing them will help close the $1.8 million budget shortfall DEEP is dealing with.

"It's just disappointing that they have to do it for something like camping, I mean everybody loves camping during the summer," Matt Greene, the very last camper of the season at Devil's Hopyard, said.

Other cutbacks include less up-keep at less popular state parks, and having lifeguards on duty less often at state beaches and lakes.
