WALLINGFORD - The public got a sneak peak on Wednesday of the progress on a transportation plan that has been moving forward for years.

Gov. Dan Malloy and the media toured the construction going on at a new Wallingford train station, which is all part of a plan to get a new commuter train line from New Haven through Hartford and up to Springfield, Massachusetts--or along the I-91 corridor. It's set to be completed before January 2018.

"We are taking action. Our transportation system, or lack of, has been holding Connecticut back for generations, quite frankly. We've under invested in transportation for over 40 years. That's why we are stepping up with major projects like the one that's under construction," said Malloy.

Malloy said he expects ridership to double to about 1 million riders per year once the extended line is up and running.
