PLAINFIELD — A cat that bit a resident tested positive for rabies Wednesday.

Animal control officers said a badly injured cat bit a resident Tuesday evening. Officers were able to capture and euthanized the cat and sent to the state laboratory for testing.

On Wednesday, the state lab confirmed the cat tested positive for the rabies virus.

The resident received minor injuries and was being treated for rabies exposure.

Animal control officers reminded residents to avoid all contact with story animals and wildlife and to make sure their pets are up to date on rabies vaccines. If residents see any wildlife acting strangely, they are asked to contact Animal Control at 860-564-8547 or police at 860-564-0804
