MIDDLEFIELD – Lyman Orchards will host one of about 125 golf events nationwide as part of the sixth-annual World’s Largest Golf Outing (WLGO), a charity event that honors military members.

Leading up to the WLGO, Lyman Orchards will be selling “red, white and blue” pies at the Apple Barrel. Known as the “Patriotic Pie,” these treats are filled with mouthwatering layers of cherries, apples and blueberries and are the perfect dessert for summertime picnics.

$1 from every pie sold between July 1 and the WLGO will also be donated to Fisher House. Then, on Monday, August 1, Lyman Orchards’ Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Gary Player golf courses will be home to more than 325 golfers. And while they’re hitting the links here in Connecticut, about 13,000 other golfers will be putting at 125 course across the nation!

The WLGO was created to help make a difference in the lives of injured service men and women of America’s armed forces. Proceeds from this year’s event will go to Fisher House, which provides free or inexpensive lodging to veterans and family at major military and Veteran’s Affairs hospitals nationwide while a loved one is receiving treatment. Over time, Fisher House has saved military families $320 million.

All WLGO events are 18-hole tournaments. Registration costs $75 for one person, $150 for two and $300 for four, and includes green fees, a shared cart, warm-up bucket, lunch, tote, hat, towel, golf ball, divot and prizes.

For each player, $10 of the registration fee will go to Fisher House.

Last year, Lyman had the largest outcome of any participating golf course in the WLGO, and raised the fifth highest amount for charity.
