FARMINGTON -- Law enforcement officers from across the state took a breather on Thursday to inspire the next generation of police.
More than 100 officers visited kids at Camp Courant on Thursday to give them an inside look at what it takes to be a police officer, and how much training is needed to get the job done.
It was a great way for local kids to bond with police in a comfortable environment, especially amid all the vitriol officers have been getting due to shooting deaths of young black men. The event was set up before the shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.
One camper named Kyon said he appreciated the interaction. "At first, I used to think police officers were just like the people who actually help and all they do is sit around and just wait until bad stuff happens. Now I understand their full job and what they do, how they do it and everything."
