Manchester man, 73, killed in 2-car crash early Friday morning

MANCHESTER — A Manchester man was killed in a car accident early Friday morning.

Friday, July 15, around 12:22 a.m., police responded to the crash at the intersection of Tolland Turnpike and Oakland Street.

Epifanio Garcia, 21, of Manchester was driving a Volkswagen Passat when he slammed into the back of a Nissan Murano, police said.

Solomon Reid, 73, of Manchester was driving the Murano and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he later died.

Garcia suffered minor injuries.

The Tolland Turnpike/ Oakland Street intersection and the I-84 exit ramp 63 were closed for several hours while police investigated the crash.

Police said the accident is under investigation. No word yet if any charges will be filed against Garcia.
