BRANFORD — Two Branford officers were injured Thursday evening when a suspected drunk driver slammed into them while they were responding to an emergency call.

The crash happened on July 14 just before 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of North Main Street and Cedar Street.

Officer Ryan Gotowala was driving through the intersection in his cruiser, Officer Brett Johnson was a passenger, police said in a release Friday morning.

Their cruiser was struck by a 2016 Audi, operated by Jeffrey Murchison, 59, of Branford.

Both officers were treated at the scene by paramedics and transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for their injuries, which are considered minor.

Murchison was later taken into custody and charged with operating while under the influence. He is due in court on July 27.
