HIGGANUM — Police were at a home on Ponsett Road in the Higganum section of Haddam for several hours on Monday in response to a narcotics situation.

Connecticut State Police, DEEP, the Drug Enforcement Agency, and Haddam Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the scene.

DEEP officials said they were called in to help check for air quality and assist in the safe disposal of any toxins found at the home. DEEP agents and police officers were wearing hazmat suits to protect themselves from any contaminants.

Barrels could be seen being brought out of the house.

The house is set back and not visible from the road.  The road was closed while police investigated, but reopened in the evening.

No arrests have been announced.
