HAMDEN — Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton leads businessman Donald Trump by 12 points in a Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday.
The poll shows Clinton with a 47 to 35% lead over Trump. Clinton leads by a three to one margin in New York City. According to the press release, “New York City voters back Clinton 63 – 20 percent, while upstate voters go to Trump 48 – 36 percent. Suburban voters are divided, with 40 percent for Trump and 39 percent for Clinton.”
Both candidates have strong ties to New York. Trump built his real estate business in Manhattan and Clinton was a U.S. Senator from New York State from 2001 to 2009.
The poll also measured the race for U.S. Senate in the state and showed incumbent U.S. Senator Charles Schumer with a 2 – 1 lead over challenger Wendy Long.
