AVON -- The CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is warning neighbors to be on the look out for bears and report them if they show signs of aggression.

"I come to the edge of my garage, I'm clapping, yelling, screaming at the bear," said Mark Turner, a resident of Avon who spotted a black bear near his home. "The bear looks up, charges at me again, I run in the house."

State officials are reminding neighbors to secure their trash cans and bird feeders and keep any other potential food for bears out of access paths.

If bears display any signs of aggression call the DEEP emergency dispatch center to report it at 860-424-3333.
