NEW BRITAIN — Police say a man found dead in Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain Tuesday morning was shot in the chest and his death was ruled a homicide.

Police identified the victim as Donzie Taylor, 41, of Middletown. The New Britain Police Department has no previous history with Taylor and there appears to be no nexus between Taylor and the area where he was located, police said in a statement.

Wednesday morning, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.

Capt. Thomas Steck says a passer-by found his body in front of the skate park at about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday. Police, firefighters and medics responded. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The New Britain Police Department is continuing to investigate this homicide and has been assisted by the Connecticut State Police, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the New Britain State’s Attorney’s Office,” police said in a statement.
