HARTFORD -- There's no such thing as a free lunch, but this afternoon in Hartford the gas was up for grabs.

Mount Olive Church Ministries held its “Gas on God” event at two gas stations on Wednesday, July 20. People were able to come and fill up for $20, no matter how large of a tank.

The gas was given away in two sections, at 1 p.m. at the Valero station, on 215 Albany Avenue inHartford; and at 4 p.m. at the Noble station on 3250 Main Street in Hartford.

Cars lined the streets, and Hartford Police were on hand to keep an eye on everything.

The gas was offered on a first come first serve basis, with more than 300 cars being filled up by the end of the day. The cost of the gas was covered by the church membership who donated their own money to subsidize the fuel.

Gas prices have hit their lowest level in five years this summer, and that has lead to increased traffic on the roads, especially for the holiday weekends of July Fourth and Memorial Day.
