NEW BRITAIN–A teacher has been arrested after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

According to New Britain police, in early May 2016 the New Britain school district contacted police to report that a middle school math teacher may be having a relationship with a high school student.

Kelsey Cabral, 33, who teaches at Slade Middle School, has been charged after an uninvolved student told administrators about the relationship. Evidence was found to substantiate those claims.

He is charged with risk of injury to children by sexual contact; sexual assault in the fourth degree; risk of injury to children by impairing morals; tampering with a witness; and criminal attempt to tamper with evidence.

Cabral was put on administrative leave, but later submitted his resignation and is no longer employed by the district, according to a statement from Superintendent Nancy Sarra.

Cabral is being held on $350,000 bond.

Police say there’s no indication that any other students were involved.
