MIDDLETOWN–Police arrested a man who threatened his ex-girlfriend, sexually assaulted her, and then hurt her in front of their kids.

On Thursday, after an incident occurred at a woman’s house, police say a witness saw a person they’ve identified as Booker Edwards put on a mask and run into the woods with a handgun.

Police determined that Edwards, 37, went to his ex-girlfriend’s home on three occasions, despite an active protective order.

First, around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Edwards entered her home while she was sleeping. He has a key. He then forced her to have sex with him at knifepoint, and he slapped her several times. He threatened to kill her “because she has too many problems,” and said he’d kill her family members too.

Then, around 3 p.m. Thursday, Edwards returned and slapped her twice in front of her daughters. An hour later he came back again, but this time didn’t enter the home. She saw him run into the woods behind her home.

That’s when the witness saw him with a gun and got concerned because there were pedestrians in the area.

Police found the suspect in the woods as he tried to hid from officers. He did not have any weapons on him at the time of his arrest.

Edwards is charged with sexual assault in a relationship, unlawful restraint, reckless endangerment, threatening, assault with intent to cause injury, three counts of criminal violation of a protective order, breach of peace, interfering/resisting arrest, criminal mischief, burglary, two counts of risk of injury to a child and failure to fingerprint. He is being held on $500,000 bond.
