PLAINFIELD – Police arrested a man they said was drunk when he rolled over his truck, ran away, then assaulted an officer.

On Friday just before 10 p.m.  police went to All Hallows Road in the Wauregan section of Plainfield.

Police said they found an unoccupied white Ford Ranger overturned on the driver’s side in a field. The vehicle was registered to Matthew Gallant, 21, of Depot Road in Wauregan.

Police said they found Gallant at his house, drunk. Police said Gallant became uncooperative with them when they tried to place him under arrest. Police said Gallant attacked an officer and fought them until he was  arrested and taken to the Plainfield Police Department. Both Gallant and the officer sustained minor injuries and declined medical attention, according to police.

Police said that at the Police Department Gallant refused chemical testing and was subsequently charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, interfering with a police investigation, and assault on a police officer.

Gallant was released on bail and is due in Danielson Superior Court on Monday, August 1 at 8:30 a.m.
