NEW BRITAIN -- Firefighters from Berlin, New Britain, and Southington, responded to a multiple large brush fires on Ragged Mountain Monday afternoon.

The Berlin Volunteer Fire Department tweeted that all companies were being dispatched to the area around 1:30 p.m.

The fire broke out on the Southington side of the mountain. "Dry conditions. It's hot, it's humid. We had four engines from Southington alone along with brush trucks and around 13-15 firefighters fighting it," said Captain James Paul of the Southington Fire Department. "It's a long way from our fire house so just to get here was 15 min drive and then coming in, it's a long haul in here and our guys did a fantastic job. Plus you see the terrain, you see the trees that fell, and you have the cliffs right there, there's a lot of danger."

Monday saw temperatures in the 90s yet again and a heat advisory was issued for most of the state.

The brush fires were extinguished around 5:30 p.m. leaving charred acres of land in its wake.
