EAST HADDAM — One person was killed after a single vehicle crash in East Haddam on Tuesday morning.

State police said the single car crash caused Route 82 between Route 156 and the Lyme town line to be closed for several hours. The road has since reopened.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. when the Dodge Grand Caravan, driving at an unknown speed, went off the roadway and into the shoulder. The car kept going for about 100 feet before hitting a tree head-on.

The driver, John Lavole, 60, of Lyme, was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
