NEW HAVEN--Parking. Does anybody really enjoy searching for a spot? Then you find one -- and you need to search for quarters?

Well, a new app from New Haven will take care of at least on of those problems.

“Go New Haven” allows you to pay with a pre-paid account, all from your phone.

According to Chris Watt, with Passport Inc., "You’ll be able to pay for your parking, you’ll be able to extend  your stay if you’re parking remotely from your cellphone.”

The app doesn't charge extra fees, and if you do get a ticket you can pay for it right through the app.

Plus the app keeps promotions going in the city as well. The city of New Haven has a deal with retailers and restaurants, like Oaxaca Kitchen, to validate parking if you eat at the restaurant.

But here’s the thing: the city of New Haven already has an app, Parkmobile, that has similar features. Why the second one?

According to Doug Hausladen, the Traffic Department head with the city of New Haven, “We’re going to have two apps competing for your dollar, and it’s going to drive costs down for the consumer.”
