The heat wave is expected to continue Wednesday, with temperatures forecasted to reach into the 90’s.
As temperatures rise so does your risk for heat related illness. Here’s what you’ll need to remember to keep you and your family safe during the heat and humidity.
• Limit strenuous activity outside during the hottest part of the day.
• If you have to work outside, try to take frequent breaks and get into air conditioning.
• Try to limit your time in direct sun.
• Check on elderly family members or neighbors.
• Everyone in the family needs to drink plenty of water, don’t wait until you are thirsty.
It’s also important to know, heat exhaustion typically impacts people working outside or those doing activities outside on hot and humid days. Some symptoms include pale, ashen or flushed skin, nausea, dizziness, or weakness.
The American Red Cross warns, if you have any of those symptoms, be sure to get into an air conditioned place and drink water or a sports drink.
Cooling centers will be essential during this heat wave, particularly if you don’t have air conditioning or it stops working today.
Here’s a list of places to go to cool down.
