STAMFORD — A Stamford woman has dropped a legal fight to keep her home day care license amid a police investigation into the death of a baby in her care.

State officials suspended Nydia Carrillo’s license a few days after 2-month-old Bella Redondo of New Canaan developed trouble breathing and died hours later at Stamford Hospital on July 12. A medical examiner ruled Bella’s death a homicide by blunt force trauma to her head.

The Advocate of Stamford reports that Carrillo voluntarily surrendered her license to run Little Bears Beginnings Daycare.

Carrillo and her lawyer have canceled a plan to fight her license suspension at a hearing Thursday in Hartford because they want to focus on the police investigation.

No charges have been filed in Bella’s death.
