WILLIMANTIC – The Willimantic Police Department arrested a man for impersonating an officer, and threatening to arrest someone.
Police say that 27-year-old Willimantic resident Danny Vazquez arrived at a residence and advised the person that he was a police officer and that he was investigating after he received a complaint about the resident selling drugs.
Vazquez flashed a pair of handcuffs, wore a suit, and was wearing some kind of listening device in his ear. He later stopped two other people in a parking lot within the city and identified himself as an ATF Agent.
An arrest warrant was obtained for Vazquez and was arrested at his Willimantic address early Saturday morning.
In a statement, Corporal Stanley Parizo Jr. said:
“The Willimantic Police Department takes this type of complaint very seriously. The public’s trust in today’s climate is paramount to our building a strong bond and positive relationship with the community. Anyone who misrepresents themselves as a member of law enforcement needs to be arrested. This type of behavior will not be tolerated.”
Vazquez was processed and released on $5,000 bond and is expected in Danielson Superior Court on August 9th.
