BRIDGEWATER -- The suspect from a violent home invasion is still at large, according to Connecticut State Police.

Police said a stolen car from near the site of an early morning home invasion and shooting has been recovered in Waterbury.

Police believe a suspect involved in a shooting and home invasion Thursday morning is no longer in the area and the all-clear has been given to neighbors, but how long it will take to find the suspect is a mystery.

State police said they were searching for a light-skinned male suspect. Authorities thought he was hiding in the heavily-wooded area between 606 S. Main St. and the boat launch at Lake Lillinonah but later determined he was no longer in the area.

"A search like this is going to be difficult any way you're looking for a person in this large area and then you add that to a wooded area so yeah it's going to be a difficult search and the fog is coming in, it makes visibility lower that's why we bring in our K-9s who have the incredible sense of smell," Trooper Kelly Grant said.

Police said they received a call about a home invasion at 606 S. Main St. in Bridgewater around 3:40 a.m.  State police spokesperson Trooper Grant said a male resident was shot and taken to Danbury Hospital. The victim was conscious and alert and when emergency crews arrived. Police said he does not appear to have life-threatening injuries. There were two people home at the time.

Police said  a vehicle stolen from New York State and a shotgun they believe are connected to the crime were located nearby.

A vehicle was stolen from nearby home was recovered on North Main Street in Waterbury later in the morning. Police are investigating to see if the vehicle is connected to the incident.

Bridgewater is located several miles northeast of Danbury.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact CT State Police.
