Conn. Parks Turn 100: Silver Sands State Park

MILFORD — Silver Sands swimming area in Milford remains closed, while two other beaches have reopened as of Thursday.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced the Milford beach would remain closed for the time being after finding indications of harmful bacteria. The DEEP expects new results from testing later Thursday.

Swimming areas at Wharton Brook in Wallingford and Day Pond in Colchester reopened after being closed yesterday.

The DEEP tests water samples at state parks to determine water quality. Samples are collected on a weekly basis and are analyzed at the Department of Public Health Lab for the presence of certain indicator bacteria which could create problems for swimmers.
