EAST WINDSOR — The  East Windsor Police Department is warning people that even the break down lane can be dangerous after a serious crash Tuesday on Route 5.

On their Facebook page, police posted video of a tractor-trailer truck crashing into a pickup truck that was pulled over to the side of the road.

The pickup truck driver had pulled off into the southbound breakdown lane to use his cell phone. That’s when the tractor-trailer driver lost control and crashed into the rear of the pickup pickup, pushing it into a utility pole.

Police said that the pickup truck driver obeyed the law by stopping to use his cell phone and the tractor-trailer driver was at fault for the crash.

They said they posted the video to make drivers aware that hazards still exist in the breakdown lane. If possible, police said, pull off into a parking lot. They said that is the safest option.
