The Hartford Courant reports the two acts of vandalism at Christ Church Cathedral on Church Street were discovered Wednesday and Thursday morning respectively.
The first incident was the defacing of the banner. Church leaders say was the fourth time it was damaged. The Very Rev. Miguelina Howell, dean of the cathedral, says someone sliced off the word “black” to make the sign read “Lives Matter.”
The church has reported both incidents to police.
Last year, a rock on UConn’s campus was painted to say “black lives matter” and “racism in Storrs.” The next morning, the words “black” and “racism” had been painted over so that the message said “lives matter in Storrs.”
