BRIDGEWATER — One day after a violent home invasion at a Bridgewater home, the suspect is still at large, according to Connecticut State Police.
Police said they received a call about a home invasion at a home on Main Street in Bridgewater around 3:40 a.m. State police spokesperson Trooper Kelly Grant said a male resident was shot and taken to Danbury Hospital. The victim was conscious and alert and when emergency crews arrived. Police said he does not appear to have life-threatening injuries. There were two people home at the time.
The victim has been identified as Victor P. Compe, 64. He was shot in his upper body, but his injury doesn’t appear to be life-threatening. His wife, Samantha A. Moore, 63, was not injured during the incident.
Police are still searching for the light-skinned male suspect. Authorities thought he was hiding in the heavily-wooded area between 606 S. Main St. and the boat launch at Lake Lillinonah, but later determined he was no longer in the area. He may have gotten away via a vehicle stolen from a nearby driveway, which was later recovered along with another stolen car in Waterbury, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
“A search like this is going to be difficult any way you’re looking for a person in this large area and then you add that to a wooded area so yeah it’s going to be a difficult search and the fog is coming in, it makes visibility lower that’s why we bring in our K-9s who have the incredible sense of smell,” Trooper Kelly Grant said.
While investigating at the scene, police found a vehicle stolen from New York State and a shotgun they believe are connected to the crime. That vehicle was identified as a green Subaru Forester stolen from Millerton, New York overnight between August 3 and 4.
As police were investigating, detectives were notified that two stolen cars had been found on North Main Street in Waterbury later in the morning. Police are investigating to see if the vehicles are connected to the incident. They were a black BMW stolen out of Middletown overnight between August 3 and 4, and a Ford Ecoline Van reported stolen to troopers who were at the scene in Bridgewater.
Bridgewater is located several miles northeast of Danbury.
