HARTFORD - Heather Somers, Republican Candidate for State Senate District 18, and 2014 candidate for Lieutenant Governor, is now seeking the southeastern Connecticut seat held by retiring Sen. Andrew Maynard. She explains to Al and Jenn why she is running and what her priorities are.
The former Groton mayor announced in February that she is running. after Maynard, earlier in the day said that he will not seek reelection.
"I think that southeastern Connecticut has not had the attention that it deserves from Hartford," said Somers, who ran for lieutenant governor in 2014.
"I am deeply concerned about the direction of our state," Somers said. "Massive tax increases, growing mandates, and perpetual budget crises have destroyed our business climate, and made life more difficult for hardworking Connecticut families."
