WALLINGFORD — A New Jersey truck driver was killed early Monday morning in a crash on I-91 southbound in Wallingford.
State Police say the rig driven by 48-year-old Danilo Maia, of Kearny, New Jersey, veered off the right side of Interstate 91 south at about 2 a.m. Monday, crashed into some trees and caught fire near the entrance to the rest area in between exits 14 and 15.
Maia was pronounced dead at the scene.
The right and center lanes were closed following the crash. There were traffic backups in the area until about 8:30 a.m.
The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded to the scene to remove fuel from the tractor-trailer’s tank.
