PALM BEACH COUNTY–A new case of Zika that is not related to travel has been announced in south Florida.

According to Florida Gov. Rick Scott, a person who has not traveled has developed Zika. This person lives in Palm Beach County, but has recently visited Miami-Dade County, where 16 individuals have been diagnosed with Zika that originated from mosquitoes in the Untied States.

The governor says that the Florida Department of Health is going door-to-door in Palm Beach County to notify residents, and is sampling mosquitoes in the area in which the person lives. There will also be an increase in mosquito reduction actions in that area.

Despite the news, “DOH still believes active transmissions are only taking place within the identified area that is less than one-square mile in Miami-Dade County,” a press release from Florida stated. More information will be released when the investigation concludes.
