BRIDGEWATER–An arrest has been made five days after a home invasion left one victim with a gunshot wound.

Police said they received a call about a home invasion at a home on Main Street in Bridgewater around 3:40 a.m. on August 4. A victim, identified as Victor P. Compe, 64, was shot by the suspect, but was conscious and alert when emergency crews arrived and brought to the hospital. He was shot in his upper body, but his injury doesn’t appear to be life-threatening.

There were two people home at the time. Compe’s wife, Samantha A. Moore, 63, was not injured during the incident.

The suspect was subsequently identified as Dustin Holst-Grubbe, 20, of Millerton, New York.

On the day of the home invasion authorities thought the suspect was hiding in the heavily-wooded area between 606 S. Main St. and the boat launch at Lake Lillinonah, but later determined he was no longer in the area. It was believed he had gotten away via a vehicle stolen from a nearby driveway, which was later recovered along with another stolen car in Waterbury, and now police are confirming the stolen cars were connected.

While investigating at the scene, police found a vehicle stolen from New York State and a shotgun they believed were connected to the crime. That vehicle was identified as a green Subaru Forester stolen from Millerton, New York overnight between August 3 and 4.

As police were investigating, detectives were also notified that two stolen cars had been found on North Main Street in Waterbury later in the morning. They were a black BMW stolen out of Middletown overnight between August 3 and 4, and a Ford Ecoline Van reported stolen to troopers who were at the scene in Bridgewater.

Police now say that all three cars are connected to the home invasion.

Holst-Grube turned himself in to the New York State Police Barracks on August 7 for burglary charges, and subsequent interviews led police to identify him as a suspect in the home invasion and car thefts. Multiple warrants were issued for his arrest by the Middletown, New York Police Department, Duchess County, New York Sheriff’s Office and the Connecticut Western Direct Major Crime unit.

He is charged in Connecticut with home invasion, assault of an elderly person, assault in the first degree with a deadly weapon, stealing a firearm, burglary in the first degree, two counts of burglary in the third degree, two counts of burglary in the third degree, two counts of larceny in the second degree, two counts of larceny in the third degree and credit card theft.

Bond will be set at $1 million. He is being held in New York for the car theft out of that state, and will be charged when he is transferred to Connecticut.

Bridgewater is located several miles northeast of Danbury.
