WESTBROOK--Food, music, fun, and all for a good cause?

The eighth annual Beach Jam for Breast Cancer Patient Care event will be held on Saturday, August 13, at the Westbrook Elks Lodge 1784, located at 142 Seaside Avenue in Westbrook.

The Beach Jam was launched by Jim Pino Jr. and Skip Swift in 2009 in honor of the organizers' friend, Marnie, who was undergoing breast cancer treatment. It was held at the Westbrook Elks Lodge, and despite pouring rain more than 100 people turned out and helped raise more than $4,000.

By 2015 the event had grown significantly, raising $58,000 for the Smilow Cancer Center and the Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center for Patient Care Services. The first seven years of the event combined raised $175,000.

Pino, a local saxophonist in the band Freeplay, spoke to FOX 61 about the event and the eight bands that will be performing.

The event is August 13 from 1 to 9 p.m. and costs $30 per person.
