NIANTIC–An inmate who tried to escape from prison on Thursday afternoon was stopped before she could make it out.

Around 2:20 p.m. the York Correctional Institution in Niantic was alerted that an inmate was trying to scale the perimeter of the fence for the prison. The offender was quickly caught, and State Police responded to the scene to assist.

The inmate never made it past the perimeter fence, and no one was injured during the escape attempt.

The person was identified as Nicole Goldin, 25, of Watertown. She’s been at the correctional facility since July 21 since she has not yet been able to post a $20,000 bond on charges of criminal violation of a protective order.

The facility was on lockdown throughout the evening as the investigation into the incident proceeded.
