STORRS - The 2016 Rio Olympics are in full swing down in Brazil and the USA women’s basketball quest for a sixth straight Gold medal is also in high gear.

The team has the usual sprinkling of UConn Huskies including Sue Bird, Tina Charles, Maya Moore, Breanna Stewart and Diana Taurasi, who along with Bird is going for their fourth Gold medal.

“I’ve gotten to share the court with some of the most legendary players ever,” said Taurasi.

Winning the gold is the ultimate goal but the players and coaches are also having to focus on certain issues off the court.

“While I do understand the danger I guess of going there, there has been something before every Olympics come up," said Sue Bird. "Now is Zika and the water problem in Rio maybe a little more not a little more a lot more serious than some of the other issues. That were talked about in Greece, talked about in Bejing, talked about in London? Yes absolutely.”

None of the off-court concerns kept any players from participating and they credit that to USA basketball for keeping them informed and prepared.
