MIDDLETOWN — At the height of Thursday evening’s storms, more than 12,000 people were without power across the state. Friday morning, cities and towns are working to clean up downed trees and power lines.
As of 7:45 a.m., Eversource said power outages were down to just under 1,000. Click here for up-to-the-minute information on outages.
Fowler Ave is closed in Middletown near Randolph Road because of a tree there. There is also a tree across Home Ave.
Middletown alone had 3 to 5 inches in just a few hours, according to FOX 61 Meteorologist Joe Furey.
All of that rain also meant flooding. Mayor Daniel Drew posted on Facebook about flooding at Woodrow Wilson Middle School. He said many streets in the city were closed for flooding during the storm.
The thunderstorms also brought an incredible lightning show and powerful rain. Lightning struck buildings including the chimney at the Canoe Club restaurant along the Connecticut River.
