Ex-Newtown teacher asks for probation in gun case
Jason Adams is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Tuesday for arguments on his application for accelerated rehabilitation.
The former Newtown Middle School teacher was charged in April with carrying a loaded .45-caliber pistol inside the school. Police said Adams had a valid pistol permit, but state law prohibits firearms on school grounds.
The middle school is less than 2 miles from the site of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy in which 20 students and six educators were killed.
Adams resigned after being placed on administrative leave following his arrest.
His attorney declined to comment.
