LYME — Several crews spent the afternoon searching searching Nehantic State Forest and Uncas Pond in Lyme Tuesday afternoon for a missing person. His body was found around 3 p.m. in the pond.
DEEP worked with the Connecticut State Police Dive Team and local police to search for the man. Officials say the death is being treated as a suicide, but an autopsy will be conducted to confirm that.
Ashley Saunders, age 62, was described as about 5-foot-11, 170 pound, with a thin build with hazel eyes and grey hair. He was reported missing from Waterford just before 9 a.m. Tuesday, and hadn’t been seen since Monday evening around 6:30 p.m.
Saunders’ car was located in the forest earlier in the day, DEEP said in a statement.
The Waterford Police Department asked for assistance from the public in locating Mr. Saunders as there were some health concerns.
